Polished. Competitive. Guarded beneath the surface. Dane carries the confidence of someone born into privilege, but not the cruelty that can come with it. He is disciplined, loyal when it matters, and far braver than he lets anyone see, especially when the people he cares about are in danger.
He carries himself like someone who is from Bel Hallow and has always been expected to win. He is  composed, disciplined, and just a little too certain that the rules will bend for him.
Â
Dane is competitive enough to turn almost anything into a contest, especially when Kailum is involved, and far too proud to admit when he has misjudged someone.
Â
But beneath the polished confidence is a fiercely protective heart. When danger comes, Dane does not hesitate. He steps between it and the people he cares about, even when doing so means risking his reputation, his future, or the carefully drawn lines of the world that raised him.

Kailum may challenge everything Dane believes. But Dane is the shield, Â the one who discovers that courage is not always about winning. Sometimes it is about choosing who you stand beside.
DANE TORVAK

Growing Up

Dane grew up in the moist prominent family  in Bel Hallow, where nearly everything had already been decided for him; what he would learn, how he would behave, and what he would one day inherit.

He was born only a few minutes after his twin sister,, a fact she has never allowed him to forget. She has always treated Dane as her younger brother: correcting him, protecting him, and speaking as though those few minutes granted her endless wisdom.

Dane complains about it constantly.

He also adores her.

The twins grew up close inside a wealthy family shaped by Torvak Industries and the expectation that Dane would eventually inherit his father’s position. Yet Dane was never entirely comfortable with the life others imagined for him.

When the family moved to Zorhros at ten orbits, Dane arrived with polished clothes, expensive equipment, and an unfamiliar accent. He responded to feeling out of place by becoming determined to excel. He trained hard, mastered RUCK, and quickly became an exceptional skiv rider.

Then he discovered the Ridge.

The Hope Bay riders were unimpressed by his family name or professionally built skiv. One rider challenged him more than the rest: Kailum Boone, whose instinct on a board could not be bought or taught.

Their rivalry pushed them both. Dane shared formal techniques; Kailum showed him how skill could grow from patience, hunger, and making broken things work.

Dane became disciplined, proud, competitive, and far more sensitive than he allows others to see. He can withstand enormous pressure, but belonging has never come as easily as winning.

For all his confidence, Dane has spent much of his life searching for a place where he is wanted for himself rather than his name.

He is finally beginning to choose where that place might be.
